Hey, the Bill Paxton multiball. Let's go.

How can they cut the power, man, they're animals!?

It's not real. It's okay.

So I'm filming and Doug is actually working, but I wanna show you this because Doug is installing Birdass into the arcade.

This game is Dune from Barrels of Fun, a 2025 pinball machine based on the newer Dune movies. Not the 1980s Dune film, which I really enjoyed, but for different reasons. The new ones are great, and so is this pinball machine. Dig those lighting effects, kids. I could spend all day watching this game. It could use more Robocop, but that's an unrelated franchise for whatever stupid reason.

Welcome back to Classic Game Roomer. Today I'm taking a look at Dune, the pinball machine based on the new Dune movies, not the 1980 Dune movie, which I rather enjoy. So it's a shame that we don't get Sting up there or Sean Young, but we do get Poe Dameron, Thanos, and the bad guy from Skyfall. So that's a good thing. Let's check it out.

Thanks to my friend Doug from Pittsburgh Pinball who took the glass off so I can put the camera in here. This is a beautiful pinball machine. I really like the art design. The lighting, as you're gonna see in the video, is great.

There's one of the harvester things. We've got the screen back here that changes with the gameplay, and you'll see stuff blowing up up there, and the sandworm comes up and drops the multiball thing in here, and it'll sometimes eat the ball. Got a thumper over here.

Now, if you've seen the movies and you've played any pinball in the last couple years, you should be right at home with Dune. You complete sequences or scenes from the film, and there's a bunch of film clips that play on the screen in the background. There's another screen below that that enhances the gameplay with explosions and shots of the different vehicles and landscapes and stuff.

It's a really great-looking machine that doesn't overdo it. Some of the newer pinball machines, it's like they just barfed LEDs all over themselves. I find them overwhelming and distracting. But this one managed to pull off the design pretty well.

The lighting actually enhances the gameplay instead of conflicting with the gameplay. Huh? I just came up with that. That was pretty good. I'm gonna pat myself on the back.

Every now and then I come up with something that's not entirely stupid. Not very often.

The only problem with Dune is that I haven't seen the movie enough to quote it as well as Robocop and Predator. So, sorry about that.

I'm here with Doug from Pittsburgh Pinball, who runs the Dune machine and all of these arcade games around here, all the pinball machines.

Doug, what can you tell me and viewers about the Dune pinball machine? Who makes it? How's it doing?

Doug: This machine was made by a relatively new company out of Texas called Barrels of Fun. They've made this game, they made a game based on Labyrinth, the movie with David Bowie, and their third title was Winchester Mystery House, which is actually a licensed theme based on a real-life haunted house in California.

Mark: And how is Dune performing?

Doug: Dune's great. It's a super fun game. The lighting system we have in here is really neat. It's super immersive. Great clips and stuff from the movies, good theme integration.

Mark: And you know how all the Stern games have multiple versions?

Doug: Yes.

Mark: Is there another version of this with the 1980s Dune movie? I would buy that if there was.

Doug: There currently is not. Who doesn't want Sting on their pinball?

Pain box. I will defeat the pain box.

Okay. And you die. Can you see this? Everyone watch. No! No, my box has been pained!

Okay, the pain box feature is great. You have to keep one hand on the action button in the center of the pinball machine and then use the other hand, only one hand, to activate the flippers. So you're playing one-handed, trying to get the ball up the ramp and save yourself by surviving the pain box.

Everybody loves the pain box.

There are a couple different ways to get multiball, but the main way is that you hit the thumper, and then that starts to activate some green arrows. Just follow them, and then you lock the ball up by the sandworm. That activates the cool feature where the sandworm rises up from the desert and then deposits the ball on the ramp with the cool lighting effects. It's very nice of the sandworms to do that.

The Harvester Battle is pretty easy to activate and win for big points.

The game uses music from the movies, and the music from Dune is awesome. A lot of good video clips, actor dialogue. I was pleasantly surprised to find that this machine existed at all. That immediately jumped on my radar to play for a review.

Thanks again to Doug and to Vellum Fermentation for letting me film with the glass off for the best video effects. I love putting the cameras in the pinball machine because, in general, you just don't get to see those views. So it's a lot of fun to figure out how to film these things from odd angles, especially a really attractive game like this.

But, Arrakis. Where'd you get one of those? It just keeps getting better.

You just installed Kangaroo. I love Kangaroo. I can't remember the last time I've seen a Kangaroo arcade game.

This has gotta get on the show. Somebody give me a sandworm.

There we go. Got me a sandworm. There's gonna be some good eating tonight.

I will say that this is a very difficult game. It feels a lot like one of the newer Stern releases, and that's a compliment. It feels like a great game. It's a lot of fun to just dive into and play. But to try to complete the events in sequence, to try to do the various things from the movie, it's tough.

This machine will hand you your own ass, so learn to get that multiball quickly. And just get good at blowing up the harvesters. That's pretty much all they needed to do in the movie, right? Just piss off the Harkonnens by blowing up all their stuff.

So that's basically what you do. Just aim for the blinky things and piss off the Harkonnens. They're kind of douchebags.

If you see one of these games in the wild, play it. Don't miss Dune Pinball.

Play this thing because it exists. I like that Dune Pinball exists. Who would have expected the novel to turn into a pinball machine way back in the day, but here we are.

Dune. It's a good book. It doesn't even have any pictures.

So there you go, Dune Pinball. It's great, a lot of fun. I totally enjoyed this game, and I hope that you can find one and play it and see how much fun it is for yourself.

Enjoy those lighting effects. Watch out for the sandworm. They're nasty.

Harvester battle. Battle. Harvester. Stupid Harkonnens.

Take your spice and leave.

It's a trap!

There can be only one!

That's the wrong movie.

Oh, shit, now it killed me.

How do you select the most awesome games? If it's a Williams game: Defender, Kangaroo, and Joust.

And clearly you need to get down and play these games.

Where's Robotron?

Don't upset me, Doug. Don't make me angry.

Give me sight beyond sight.
