This is the iconic smash hit Asteroids, which is still a popular game today, because even though it is very rudimentary, the concept is quite simple and quite entertaining.

You are a lone spaceship in the middle of space, surrounded by a bunch of asteroids. And your goal is to shoot all the asteroids, breaking them into smaller and smaller pieces until they can no longer destroy your ship.

At least I think that's what the goal of the game is. I lost the packaging long ago.

Now what you see on screen when my little spaceship disappears and then comes back in a different location, that's like your hyperspace control.

So if you're really in deep shit and you need to get out of there, you press your button on the Atari controller, because it only had one button, and that transports your ship randomly into another part of the screen.

Now, this is like a 50-50 chance because half the time you make it out with no problem, you get into a safer spot and you can continue shooting the asteroids and continue your game.

The other half of the time, it basically teleports you or transports you right into the oncoming path of a massive asteroid and crushes you in the vacuum of space.
