If the game has “Frenzy” and “Berzerk” in the animations, then you know the game has got to be good. It’s the Deadpool Pinball Machine from Stern. Deadpool. Man, who would have thought this was the character Marvel would be betting on these days I remember when Deadpool was new back in the 90s. It was like, all right, but you know who’s better Lobo. You know it’s true. Deadpool’s okay. I guess he’s funny, but whatever. Snake Eyes would whoop his ass, but this pinball machine is excellent. One of my favorite Stern games in the modern era. Do not pass up a Deadpool machine if you see one. Trust me, this one is a ton of fun.

I love the layout of this game. I’m okay with Deadpool—not one of my favorite characters. I don’t know why. For some reason everybody else in the world loves him. I’m like, eh, it’s all right. This machine strikes the perfect balance between being approachable and being complex and interesting. I sound like I’m describing wine, except it’s a pinball machine, which is better than wine. It’s not better than beer though. Beer does one‑up pinball. They pair well together though, so I’m told.

So what do you do in this machine Insert your quarters, aim for the blinky things, and then lose all your money while having fun in the process. Then repeat. That’s pinball. Deadpool pinball. I love the little bobblehead Deadpool. That adds a lot of personality to the game. And the swords look great. The sword that you shoot, the sword that collects the multiballs on the right—that’s awesome. Really nice artwork on this game.

Great color scheme and it just plays well. It’s a little more straightforward than some of the other ones like the Turtles game. That one’s a bit more complicated than this one, and even Godzilla doesn’t flow quite as well as Deadpool. Like usual, the best way to get a high score is just to get multiball going somehow. There are a couple different ways you can get multiball. And then of course you also battle enemies. Superhero enemies.

Like Mystique. And Sabertooth. And… what’s the other guy’s name Who’s the one with the big helmet Juggernaut. That guy. You fight him too. Aim for the blinky things, whoop their ass, score big points, get a free game, drink beer. It’s a recipe for a great afternoon.

I like the style of Stern’s Jaws machine more because I love Jaws, but Deadpool does play better, though it is missing a giant shark that comes up from the bottom of the playfield. And hey, now we’ve got the John Wick pinball machine to get on this show too. If John Wick gets his own pinball machine, it’s only a matter of time until we get Logan’s Run. Tell me Carousel wouldn’t make a great gimmick on the playfield. I’ll also accept The Last Starfighter. We need more properties that aren’t just superheroes. Or John Wick. Who’s kind of—he may as well be a superhero. I’m pretty sure John Wick is more indestructible than Superman. Like, Superman has a weakness. John Wick’s only weakness is that eventually the writers run out of ideas of ways to even try to kill him. Like, let’s have him fall down the stairs. Nope, that doesn’t kill him. Drop him off a building Nope. Shoot him Nope. Stab him Nope. I give up. Eventually he just gets tired and dies.

That was a cheap save, but I’ll take it. Hey, you probably saw the Hot Wheels machine earlier in a shot, and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles machine. Also, I gotta get Guardians of the Galaxy on here now. Big fan of the Guardians game. I love how Groot throws the balls up at you. He literally barfs all of the pinballs onto you. It’s awesome. Even Deadpool has more respect than that. Not much, though.

Anyway, I just like this one. It’s fun. It’s hard for me to tell you what to actually do, because what I do, like I’ve said before, is aim for the blinky things, figure out multiball, and just keep flipping the flippers until the balls hit the thingies that make the score go up. Then, you know, shoot the one game that you do really well at and pretend like you know what you’re doing. Really. That’s my recipe. I got a good score. And using my Stern app, I’ve saved it. Even in the future, nothing works except maybe pinball some of the time.
