Very sturdy little console. Good in the car paired with the LCD and 12volt adapter!

Terrific game console! Recommend getting a PS2 Slim console. Plays PS1 games as well as DVDs! Finding the 8-inch LCD snap-on screens for the PS2 Slim is becoming more problematic, but mine has worked great and I use this as a mobile console for places with power outlets. When I was snowed-in at work, this PS2 with a small collection of favorite games (SOCOM 1-3, Virtua Fighter 4, Ace Combat 4, 5 & Zero, Onimusha, Black, Mr. Mosquito, Mercenaries 1, Ghost in the Shell SAC, etc.) was a GODSEND!

Man, I remember playing the big bulky on at all my friends house, but the love I had for this version. So many wasted childhood hours on FF7 and Flintstones Bowling.. <3

I bought mine the first week it was available along with an extra controller, memory card & 4 games for $729.00 in 1995. Never tried the newer little one.

The original Sony PlayStation was one of my favorite consoles. I have the PSone as well. Good review!

Greatest console ever made - through I prefer the original model.

The best console of all time (in my opinion) got very small and sexy back in 2000 and of course i had to replace my original PS1! Even though PS1 golden era was almost over back then, i enjoyed many old and new PS1 games using PSone. And i also had that fancy Sony's official LCD screen attached to PSone. Too bad it didn't have battery pack of some sort to make it fully mobile (it still needed AC power).
reply

zanacx
Epic and legendary machine. I remember I bought mine on clearance at target with the LCD screen for about 80 dollars and was not disappointed. At first I dismissed the console because I was a huge SEGA and Nintendo fanboy, but I eventually had to cave in. It is worth getting for symphony of the night alone! With so many titles released for it, you're bound to find something you like.

Still have mine in working order today, got my fave gaming memories on it, plus it looks great, runs quietly, and is just good all around, I'll never get rid of mine ^^
reply

Lord_Santa
actually my brother and I had a PSOne with the LCD-screen and a 'portable' (rechargeable) power-supply; suffice to say, we used to play Tekken 3 (two players) on the subway, much to our amusement and others distraught

The original PS1 was better than this redesigned version.

i really want one now! even tho i have a ps2 lol

PSone>PS3 and PS4, but not the PS2 - because that one plays it games too and gives you game library to explore for LIFE!
reply

darthv72
Look its Barbie in crash bandicoot....lol i have 2 of these. 1 includes the LCD screen in a matched serial number. the other is just the unit by itself. Paid all of about $20 for both at goodwill with the PSOne dual shocks and power supplies. Thrift stores FTW!

I recall my father giving me an ultimatum of going to Dave & busters or getting this bad boy. We fkt this with final fantasy tactics and megaman 8. So many hours of great memories were had on this system, and I predict many more to come
reply

is it bad that the ps4 is out and i still like the ps1 better?

Great system and extremly durable, sony has introduced it's slim design line for their consoles the first time back in 2000.

The one I had didn't do anything. But when I found a SPCH-1002 I used the cd drive from the PSOne and put it in there. Now I have the ultimate PlayStation 1.

reply

I prefer the "Fat" Sony PlayStation 1 Gray Console Model (NTSC - SCPH-7501) because this was my first back in 1998 for playing Final Fantasy 7 and Parasite Eve but this "Slim" version is nice. In 2003 I "trade in" my Original PS1 model 7501 plus 7 games for a new PS2 Online plus games on Electronic Boutique now an GameStop. Years later I acquired two originals Fat PS1 Gray Consoles models 5501 + 7501 and one Slim or PSone (this one).
reply

nahcirn
This was my first console! I still have it, along with 2 other models I acquired later (the original model, and the original model NTSC-J version to play Japanese games!)

Nice little system if you wanna rock it old school (ie: not use a PS2 or 3).
reply

I got my PS1 in 7th grade; Final Fantasy VII was the only game I owned for the first 6 months, lol.

I had the original grey Playstation and loved it, was truly a revolution having switched over from N64. Never had a PSone but its smaller and lighter so whats not to love about it? Only problem is, I still have my N64 and not my Playstation. This console is surely a classic and the controller is one of the best ever made!

It looks good and never has any problems with fmv cutscenes but it's missing the link cable port. No Doom/Destruction derby multiplayer for me.

When all my buddies were rocking the PS1, I was enjoying my Saturn. It was not until a few years back that I actually started enjoying more and more sony titles, and this little unit was the first piece I picked up. I read that there was some PS1 games that would not work on a PS2 ( Mortal Kombat Trilogy) so hence why I picked one up for hella cheap. Its lots of fun and takes up no space on my shelf.
reply

vectorclash68
Love the PSone. I found it super cheap for around $30 w/ LCD screen. Of all the console redesigns this is easily my fave. I don't display it like I do my gray model PlayStation, but for that reason (and it's smaller size) I can keep it hooked up in the bedroom next to the blu-ray player, Dreamcast and GameCube (all on one shelf). Smaller systems FTW!
reply

oblivion8910
badass system right here
reply

Great redesign, and a real space saver. Personally, I don't really like the style of any PS1 game. But I acknowledge what this console stood for in the evolution of gaming.
reply

Snotnarok
PSOne is a solid little console that doesn't take up much shelf space and has the awesome optional screen so you can take it places easily...you know like another room away from annoying family members O: I remember reading it has Sony's patented "g-shock" built int to lessen skipping problems as it was apparently also marketed as being playable in the car. Either way, it's built well, arguably better aesthetic and is worth getting.
reply

lordductape
I hated that you couldn't play multiplayer DOOM on that system
reply

goodtofufriday
I think these are only worth it if you have the official lcd screen that was also sold. Love that combo a lot
reply

Fantastic redesign I still own. Amazing how compact and simplistic it is. Fantastic console with fantastic controller.

Love the original Playstation! Never had one of these re-design PSone(s but I have tons of memories playing games on my original PS. One of my all-time favorite systems.

For nostalgic reasons only, I prefer the look of the original PlayStation, but there is no denying that this was an incredible console. I remember at the time thinking "this is it... this is as good as games are ever going to be!". I'm glad I was wrong (but not too far wrong).
reply

angry4ever
Awsome console. But mine does not read disk anymore. Good thing I have a ps2.

Cipher The Demon Lord
My first home console. Going to sell it and some games I don't want sometime and this Guncon light gun plus Point Blank 3. Fun times on this but better memories on the PS2. Wish I had gotten a Saturn instead.
reply

burningdoom
Still need an original PlayStation if you want to use the GameShark. It uses the Parallel Port.
reply

dragonwolf123
What can I say? This is a classic console, and I've rated it as such. Some of the greatest video games of all time were born on the PS1. Graphically amazing for its time, and it defined form factor for controllers.
reply

Xodyak
I remember having one of these with the LCD screen back in the day. I loved it since it had improved resolution and me and my friends could be playing on different screens while waiting for turns. Great, fun little system and a great re-release.
reply

thehunters500
I prefer the look of the old ps1
reply

With backwards compatibility it kind of makes this console redundant now but my God when this came out it was the best thing ever and is easily one of my favourite consoles
reply

This thing had tons of great games! Metal Gear Solid, Ape escape, Parappa The Rappa, Grand Theft Auto, The list could go on! 5/5
reply

mrbungle
Although it's not the most durable console, the PS1 had a massive library to draw from, as well as CD TECHNOLOGY. I remember listening to CD's on this baby when I was a teen, but now I just play games on it. GOOD GAMES, like the FF series, the Metal Gear games, and countless others. The smaller redesign looks snazzy, and there were even some neat screens you could get on the cheap. Driving to Grandma's house for Thanksgiving doesn't suck quite so much when you're playing FF9.

great system with tons of outstanding games, but the one I played the most was FIFA 99. What a fabulous game.
reply

Never owned the PSOne model but I'd rather own that console instead of another console with a similar name. So many great series got their start on PSX: Crash Bandicoot, Tekken, Ridge Racer, Spyro, Gran Turismo, Suikoden and Twisted Metal are some of them. Others had their salad days on the console such as Final Fantasy, Sony sports games and Metal Gear Solid. So much great software and so much variety. It can't be topped.

The PlayStation has a great library of games from the time when 3D graphics were in their infancy. I think it plays best on a good quality CRT 4:3 television.
reply

startower
we definetively need a full game review of Barbie Explorer, and Psone looks like a convinient way to play ps games and it looks of good quality, not like ps3 super slim, if only it had the RCA av out like the first model.
reply

LordKarnagejarjar21
Has amazing library games, use to play it ALL of the time 5/5

I love my PSone. Yes, PlayStation games will play on on a PS2, but they seem smoother on my PSone.
reply

WindSquid
While I like the design but I think the video quality is better from the old one (of course that could just be this particular unit). I'd still go with a PS2 or PS3 but I picked this up with a controller and memory card for $25 just so that's pretty cheap when you consider the great games it'll play.
